The Littleton Volleyball League held its season kickoff meeting on September 21. Attendees included Gene Harris (YoursYoursYours), Steve Hopkins (Dig Big), Russ Lauffer (Paper Tigers), Betty Lew (TopSpin), Brad Martin (Sets Deprived), Igor Mukhanov (Scared Hitless), Loretta Ho Sherblom (High Spirits), Jeff Stokes (NetHeads), Lynne Swanson (Rally Cats/Dig It!), and Roger Zee (Blockheads). First order of business was to elect officers. All officers were returning as incumbents. The slate that was voted in unanimously: President - Lynne Swanson Vice President - Roger Zee Treasurer - Jon Levy Secretary - Betty Lew Head Referee - Dave Rose Betty reviewed the returning team status. For Monday, 9 teams had indicated their intention to return, with 2 teams possibly requiring more people. For Wednesday, 8 teams indicated their intention to return. There were requests by 3 teams for Monday (1 was admitted) and Wednesday (all admitted). The current total number of teams is 10 on Monday and 11 on Wednesday, so we still have room on each night. There are also some free agents that will be posted on the free agent list. Lynne discussed schedule. We will have the Russell Street School and the Middle School in Littleton for the 8:30 - 10:45 time slot on Monday and Wednesday evenings. Proposal is to run through week of April 10 with 1 practice, 18 regular season, and 1 playoff for total of 20 weeks pending any cancellations. If necessary, we will revisit the schedule at Week 16 to make any adjustments. Motion passed to start week of October 3. NOTE: The Monday regular season has been delayed by two weeks. It will not start until October 24. Lynne then discussed fees. Dues will continue to be team-based and are expected to be in the mid-$400 range this year (with additional $6 for each non-Yankee member on the roster), pending approval by treasurer based on the final number of teams. One check per team payable to Littleton Volleyball League. Team roster/insurance forms will be provided on the first night and on the Web site (http://newts.org/lvl). Rosters must also be submitted online at the Web site (Rosters link under Administrivia). Action: The fees and completed team roster/insurance form are due by third week of play and can be submitted to an officer. (October 31 for Monday, October 19 for Wednesday) If you add players during the season, submit another team roster/insurance form with just the added players on it. Dave indicated that none of the updates to USA Volleyball (USAV) rules would affect the LVL this season. The meeting closed with discussion of parking and entrance to Middle School. The entrance to the Middle School is now on the other side of the building. To get to it, do NOT use the regular driveway. Use the driveway on the other side of the Middle School marked for construction vehicles (go in to the left of the chain link fence) and head all the way to the back. The entrance to the gym is at the back corner of the school (set in from the driveway). NOTE: As a reminder, though there are assigned setup and teardown teams, everyone should lend a hand to maximize playing time.
