Updated Net Setup/Breakdown Instructions For The New Millennium
The Equipment
The equipment has been color coded as follows:
Court One - RED
Wheeled base with red tape
Pole with red tape
Red strap (with black extension)
Court one net has red tape on the court one end
Carabiner (not color coded)
Center - Yellow
Wheeled base with yellow tape
Pole with yellow tape
Both nets have yellow tape on one end
Carabiner
Two(2) chains (not color coded)
Four(4) S hooks (not color coded)
Court Two - Blue
Wheeled base with blue tape
Pole with blue tape
Blue strap
Court two net has blue tape on the court one end
Come-a-long (not color coded)
A useful mnemonic - If the pole is blue, it's for court number two.
Setting up the Net
Setting up the net is most efficient with three teams of at least two people,
each working on one of the pole setup. The team on court two should wait
for the other two teams to get their top wire in place before attempting
to thread the top wire on the blue pole.
Placement of Bases:
The base and pole with red tape goes on the court one side.
The base and pole with yellow tape goes between the courts.
The base and pole with blue tape goes on court two side.
Make sure the wheels on the outside bases are away from the court, and
the wheel(sic) on the center base is pointing toward the receiving side.
Position side poles with the color coded Straps.
Start on the Red (court one) pole:
Attach the Red strap to the bottom ring of the red pole.
Thread the strap through the ring on the wall.
Attach a carabiner to the ring on the wall. (leave it open for now)
Attach the hook end of the red strap over the screw thread of the top ring
of the pole.
Next work on the Blue (court two) pole:
Attach the Blue strap to bottom ring of the blue pole.
Thread the strap through the ring on the wall.
Attach the other end of the blue strap to the top ring of the pole.
Note: The length of the straps should not have to be adjusted, (unless
the person who took the net down last did something wrong) the position
of each base should be adjusted so that the slack in the strap is taken
up.
Unfold the nets and lay them out according to the color coded tape on
each end.
Red end towards the red pole.
Yellow end towards the yellow pole.
Blue end towards the blue pole.
Loosen the thumb screws on the antenna holders slightly.
Slide each antenna into the holders from the top.
Tighten the thumb screws to secure the antenna.
Thread the Top Wire:
At the Yellow (center) pole:
Position the yellow pole so that the top and bottom rings are facing towards
the receive side of the gym.
Thread the top net wire (the thicker one) from the court one net through
the top ring of the yellow pole.
Open up a carabiner and attach it to the wire.
Attach the top wire from the Court One net to the carabiner.
Close the carabiner.
At the Red (court one) pole:
Thread the top net wire through the top ring of the red pole
Attach the wire to the ring on the wall using the carabiner (which you
put there while the straps were put up)
Close the carabiner.
At the Blue (court two) pole:
Reel out the wire on the come-along.
Attach the wire end of the come-along to the ring on the wall.
Thread the top net wire from the court two net through the top ring of
the blue pole.
Attach the top net wire to the other end of the come-along.
Take up the slack in the top wire using the come-along.
Please NOTE:!! It can pull the ring out of the wall, so do NOT
over-tighten the net!
Also note the metal sleeve may catch on the middle pole, if so have
someone push it up to release it and continue to tighten the net.
String the bottom net wires.
At the Red and Blue poles:
Temporarily remove the strap from the bottom ring on each pole.
Place the loop on the bottom net wire over the bottom ring on each pole.
Replace the strap in the bottom ring on each pole.
At the Yellow pole:
Thread the other ends of the bottom wire through the bottom ring of the
yellow pole.
Attach a chain to each wire using an S-hook.
Pull the wire tight to tension the bottom of the net.
Attach the chain to the wheel housing on the base using another S-hook.
Wrap the excess chain around the base of the middle pole.
Align the nets with the court lines:
Align the antennas with the court lines.
Tie the ropes on the ends of the nets to the end poles.
A taut-line
hitch is recommended as that can be re-tightened over the course of
the evening.
Set out the other equipment:
Leave the medical bag against the wall by the blue pole.
Set out the scoreboards.
One goes by the corner of receive side of court two nearest the door.
The other goes in the opposite corner of the gym.
Tape pens and the schedules for the night to the yellow closet doors.
Breaking Down the Net
Many of the steps in breaking down the net can be accomplished in parallel.
Once the come-along has been removed from the top wire system, the whole
assembly can be attacked in parallel.
Release the tension on the top wire using the come-along.
Remove the come-along from the wall ring and the top wire.
Untie the net from the poles.
Release the tension from the bottom wires at the yellow pole.
Return the four (4) S-hooks and two (2) chains to the equipment box.
Remove top wire from the court one wall ring.
Remove the carabiner from the court one wall ring and return to the equipment
box.
Remove the carabiner from between the two nets and return to the equipment
box.
Remove the color coded straps from the poles and return to the equipment
box.
IMPORTANT: Do NOT change the length of the straps. They should not
have to be adjusted.
Remove the antennas from the antenna holders, retighten the thumbscrews
so they do not get lost.
Return pens from both courts to the equipment box.
Carefully fold the nets.
Stow bases in the storage room, stow poles against the wall on the right.
Put equipment box, medical kit, and score boards in the wooden box.
