More Monday night session news:
The five team bracket has been moved to the top five teams. So six through eight, and nine through 11 will share one gym, while one through five will share the other. Other than that detail everything else will work the same way.

Aren't you glad you asked? ;-)

NOTE: Ayer High School is starting at 8:15 now and we must be out of the school by 10:30.

Everyone should work together to set up and tear down the nets, so that we can maximize playing time.

There is a new pub in town (Littleton) about two miles west from the gym. It is in the building that was formerly Home Plate on 2A. It is called Chip Shots and is, as you might guess, a golfing themed pub. According to the website they close at 11pm, but we have found that if you get there by 11pm they will serve you until midnight. They have large plasma screens all over the place to watch your favorite sports, and two state of the art golf simulators.

Tell them Vanessa sent you!

There are 9 teams returning on Monday, and 8 teams returning on Wednesday. With new teams we now have 10 teams on Monday and 11 teams on Wednesday, so there is room for additional teams on both nights.

Captains please use the roster page to update your team roster. I forgot my LVL password.

Here is the schedule for the first week. As a reminder: The team refereeing first is responsible for net setup. The team refereeing last is responsible for net breakdown and getting results to Betty by the next day. (Send the scores to Betty at blew@rcn.com. Keep the scoresheets and give them to her at the next session.)

Although there are designated setup and breakdown teams, other teams should lend a hand so that we can maximize playing time.

The LVL held a meeting on Monday, October 28 to discuss our options. Attendees were: LVL officers (Jon Levy, Betty Lew, Tom Sweeney, Roger Zee), Bob Manning (KAOS), Mott Meeks (Loose Cannons), and Lynne Swanson (Bump Uglies).

We are going to try and find a gym for the spring season (January/February) timeframe. We plan to have a status update by Thanksgiving about these efforts.

If anyone knows of gym openings in the area, please send mail to the officers (lvl-officers@newts.org).

LVL 2002-2003 Canceled
We recently received news that the Middle School will be unavailable to us due to the greatly expanded basketball program in Littleton. We have also tried these gyms in the surrounding area without any luck.

  • Acton: Junior High School, Community Education
  • Boxborough: Blanchard Elementary School
  • Devens: Devens Fitness
  • Groton: Lawrence Academy
  • Westford: The Abbot School, Nashoba Valley Technical HS, Westford Academy
As a result, we regret that we have to shut down the league this season and work on securing a gym for next year. We also have an opening for President as Jim Mann has resigned because he has moved away from the area.

The officers are planning to have a wrap-up meeting on Monday, October 28 at 6 PM for brainstorming at the Russell Street School. If you plan to attend, please let us know ASAP so that we can make the proper arrangements with the school. Thanks!

The second part of (Wednesday/Thursday) Week 14 was canceled on Thursday (1/31), so your teams (who played on Wednesday last week) will not be playing this week because we need to get the results from the canceled games before we can schedule.

Those teams who were scheduled to play on Thursday last week (1/31) will play this week (2/7) instead.

December 12, 2001
Due to the shortened time periods, we are going to 21-point games until we return to our regular schedule to make it fairer for all teams.

Scores start at 4-4 if there is NO gender point differential. If the gender point differential is +1, then 3 additional points are awarded. If the gender point differential is +2, then 7 additional points are awarded.

This information will be at the bottom of the scoresheets. Please let your team know. Thanks.

The new LVL Constitution is here (Acrobat-PDF 53K).
October 2, 2002
With the first night of practice under our belt we are under way! A reminder that when Littleton does not have school for holidays (such as October 8th Columbus day) or because of bad weather etc, LVL is also called off. We will attempt to send e-mail out to captains when we learn of any unplanned cancellations, and info will be posted to the web as soon as possible. NOTE: No LVL on Monday October 8th ;-).

Rosters should be completed by the third week of play: October 24th for Wednesday and October 29th for Monday. The USAV and LVL waivers must be completed as well as the online form. Dues are also due.

We have been informed that the school needs to use the gym next week, so the start of the season will be POSTPONED another week to:

     10/1 for Mondays
     10/3 for Wednesdays

That week will be the practice week. Please notify your teams. Thanks.

Team rosters will still need to be finalized by the third week of play:

     10/29 for Mondays
     10/24 for Wednesdays

September 14, 2001
Due in large part to the events of this week, the LVL has not been able to confirm which teams were returning in order to establish next weeks's schedule.

As a result, the 2001-2002 season will be POSTPONED one week. The season will start with one practice week scheduled for:

9/24 for Mondays
9/26 for Wednesdays
This will be followed by two weeks of laddering, and then the regular season. (Remember that the Monday night session will not be playing on Columbus Day, October 7)

September 10, 2001
The LVL captain's meeting was held on Monday September 10 at the Russell Street school.
  • Incumbent LVL officers re-elected
  • Strong possibility that LVL will be pre-empted for all of December
  • Schedule: 1 practice week, 18 weeks regular season (including 2 weeks laddering)
  • Dues still collected per person (probably $40 again)
  • Team rosters to be finalized by the third week of regular play (Wed 10/17, Mon 10/22 )
  • New rule: Allowed to cross into space behind other court as long as you don't make contact with the court.
  • Full text of the minutes available.
