CLUB
GETAWAY HUGE SUCESS AUGUST 15-17, 2008
|
Last weekend
was another very successful volleyball clinic weekend at club getaway =
in Kent, Conn.
We had a big group of awesome people that played hard and learned a lot. It=
was
nice to meet new friends and to see some familiar faces. I can't wait to do=
it
again next year!
I cannot be more inspired to play this sport than I am right now. To=
see
what Misty and Kerri did and then to watch Phil and Todd win in dramatic
fashion. One word. WOW! The AVP tour is finally regarded as the best in the
world. Our men's and women's teams have won the Gold medals together for the
first time ever. Our US
players played so consistent and confident out there that you could fe=
el
they had to win. It also feels good to know that by playing these guys all
summer in some way helped them get better to bring home the Gold. =
font>
I am thrilled that Phil told me that he wants to go to Turks and Cai=
cos
for his first trip with Volleyball Vacations. This guy is a freak of nature=
. He
could be the best and most talented player that has ever played the game and
there has been some great ones. He needed to win the Gold Medal to be
considered in this elite pool and probably needs to win one more. With the =
AVP
tour and FIVB tour being the toughest competition in
history it is apparent that their dominance is remarkable. I am in
awe watching how calm Phil is while taking teams apart. Listening to <=
st1:City w:st=3D"on">Rogers s=
ay "I just
sat back and watched Phil take over" was a cool position to be in. He =
is a
really nice guy and I couldn't be happier for him. The same goes for Misty =
and
Kerri. I have become really good friends with Kerri over the years (Casey is
one of my best friends) and let me tell you that she is the sweetest girl a=
nd
deserves every bit of success that she gets. If you get a chance to meet th=
ese
guys make sure you talk to them and see how normal they are but that they
differ only in how extraordinary they are when they get on a volleyball cou=
rt.
Big thumbs up to the USA
indoor teams too. They certainly stepped up and are peaking at just the rig=
ht
time. So fun to watch too.
The AVP is back next weekend in Cincinnati
and it will be great to get back out there. Then we are in Santa
Barbara, San Francisco, Manhattan Beach, and then Glendale, AR.
This is going to be interesting to see how things end up. I am excited to
finish the season strong and get some momentum for next year when I go
into my 17th season. I have been so lucky to play the sport I love for so l=
ong
and will never take that for granted. I know it will come to an end soon bu=
t I will
keep fighting to win out there as long as I can. =

It looks like we will be going to either
Puerto Rico, Cayman islands or Bahamas
in January and possibly Ixtapa, Mexico in February and then Hawaii in=
March. We are going to do another California Volleyball
Vacation during one of the local tournaments but we have to wait until the =
2009
AVP schedule comes out before we can set that date. Halloween week 09 we are
rented out the entire Turks and Caicos club med and are already planning th=
at
event now. It is sure to be an interesting and amazing schedule once again =
for
Volleyball vacations. Hope to see you on the beach!!! =

The biggest non AVP volleyball tournament of the year was won once again by
Team Smack Sportswear/Swoop magazine. We had an amazing time winning a=
nd
some familiar faces on the team with me were Sean Rosenthal, Jake Gibb, Bre=
nt
Doble, Fred Souza, Anthony Medel, Austin Rester, and a lot of USA National =
team
members. Coming to this tournament is something you have to do on=
ce
in your life and I am considering entering a Volleyball vacations team next
year to let you guys experience the biggest volleyball weekend party of the
year.
