A fine day at the beach for some volleyball. Unfortunately we seem to be better on grass. By the time we started winning we were down 2 matches which was too bad to make top two in the pool. At least we got to spend a fine day at the beach listening to Brad's fine musical selection.
Last summer I played with a different partner every single tournament.
After a successful season at BB I decided to pick up Juan, a Brazilian
in Boston, and try playing A level ball. Unfortunately for us, Shot
Block was cancled that weekend so a lot of the Open level teams showed
up.
Even though we got our butts kicked it was one of the most fun
tournaments and we were far from the bottom of our pool. In this
photo by Kathy Boop I am playing the safest position on the court:
blocking. I don't think I touched the ball but once all day but it
was worth it when i got a huge stuff block on one of the better
players there.
Orchard Hills runs some fun doubles tournaments a couple times a season. Sand courts, snack bar, and a swimming pool. What more could you want? Photo by Angela Scopel.
Randy works for Ricoh who sponsered the Nationals tour and got some backstage tickets for Longwood Cricket club. We got to bo back and hear Fred Sturm talk and meet the players. Jack got to get his picture taken with Eric Sato. I think Jack was more excited than Eric was for the photo.
These are usually early in the season and are indoor doubles tournaments at the Ft Devans Army base. For only ten bucks a person you get donuts, sport drink and lots of volleyball. Last year (94) I played this with Gary and we each won Topflite volleyballs. This year we went down to my long time rivals Jim Goyette and Eric Wilbur. I got back at them by winning the Goyette Invitational tournament that Jim throws in his back yard.
